Smile Design

An aesthetic smile is always a situation that allows a person to be one step ahead. A white and uniform smile primarily affects the psychological state, self-confidence and social relations of the person. Therefore, everyone wants a beautiful and impressive smile, regardless of whether they are children or adults.

Smile design is a planning created by the physician using his artistic skills in line with the criteria determined specifically for his patient, taking into account the wishes of his patient.

How is it Determined?

Some criteria used for smile design are as follows;

  • Gender: As the face and general lines are different in men and women, the shapes of the teeth and smile also differ.
  • Facial Lines: The geometric shape of the facial line shows the shape of the teeth. For example, oval or round teeth on a square face will not give a natural appearance.
  • Age: In young people, the teeth are whiter, the tips are slightly indented and protruding, and the length differences between them are noticeable. As the age progresses, the teeth become flat, sharper and darker due to abrasion.
  • Smile line : The imaginary line connecting the ends of the upper teeth and the curve of the lower lip should be the same.
  • Lip Line : The upper lip should allow the gums to show only the triangular pink areas between the teeth.
  • Colour: The colour of the teeth should match the skin and hair colour of the person. Natural teeth are never just one colour. The part close to the gum is darker, the middle part is a little lighter and the edge is lighter and transparent.
  • Golden ratio: To give an example; the width of the upper incisors should be 1/16 of the width of the face; their height should be 1/16 of the height of the face so that an aesthetic appearance can be achieved. It is necessary to catch a number of similar ratios between the face and teeth and between the teeth themselves.

How Many Kinds of Smile Are There?

1- Attractive Smile (Sexy Smile)

In this category, the front teeth are noticeably longer than the side teeth. In fact, this is already the case in young individuals, since the front incisors are the first teeth to erupt, they wear out over time and their length shortens. This brings with it an aged appearance. In order to have an attractive smile, the front teeth should be longer than the others. This design of the front teeth will give you a young, dynamic and attractive smile. This category is suitable for young individuals.

2-Sophisticated Smile

The teeth are arranged in a horizontal straight line. The intellectual smile gives the face a mature and knowledgeable expression. This smile emphasises the lower part of the face more. When the teeth first erupt in young ages, their lengths are different from each other. In middle ages, the teeth are of equal length. Thanks to aesthetic dentistry, we can turn this disadvantageous situation into an advantage and design a mature, knowledgeable and intellectual smile.

3-Sporty Smile

The smile is between intellectual and attractive. The central incisors are only slightly longer than the lateral incisors. The sporty smile design gives your face an unusual, sincere and warm expression, which is not as serious as the intellectual smile and not as childish and youthful as the attractive smile design.
